DEEP DOWN: 4 DAYS IN HAITI

Released 12/28/13 (82min)
The Film

In 2012 a video shoot interview took place with Paul Rodriguez and Stephanie Fast of Destiny Ministries. It was at that moment when Stephanie said that it has been in her heart to do a documentary film of the Haiti Homes of Hope project. With that said, Paul offered to assist with making this movie and preparations began. This movie is about 10 individuals from Austin, TX being led by Darryl & Stephanie Fast to go on a 4 day mission trip to Les Cayes, Haiti. The mission is to assist LSM in construction of a building on a large ranch, visit the Forever Homes with singing, giving gifts, ministering and having fun with the children.

This film will not only show the mission of LSM but Haiti and it's people as well. From the capital city Port au Prince, to the high mountain tops, to the beautiful ocean that surrounds the island. This film will be a heart felt movie seeing the poverty everywhere and the depair in the people to the children being rescued with a new life of love in a family.

Haiti

Haiti  is a small Caribbean country  which shares with the Dominican Republic. It is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and home to more than 300,000 orphans. Political violence has occurred regularly throughout its history, leading to government instability. The island has had a history of destructive earthquakes. A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on January 12th, 2010 and devastated Port-au-Prince. The highest reliable death count was estimated at 220,000. The Presidential palace, Parliament and many other important structures were destroyed, along with countless homes and businesses, leaving hundreds of thousands of people homeless. United States aid organizations have donated $2 billion. Combined with other international donations, these funds are intended to contribute to the rebuilding of the country. Its history  maybe tragically dark but there is hope. God is raising up a generation of culture-changers in the midst of Haiti. This new generation is made up of those written off by the world, including orphans.

Loving Shepherd Ministries

LSM is a faith based organization founded by Ed Schwartz with thr vision of being called to care for orphans.

LSM believes orphans are not orphans because they lack food, clean water, or clothes, rather they are orphans because they lack a family. The LSM mission is to place these orphaned children in a loving family. Raising them to be godly leaders in their communities. In Haiti, LSM developed a system of empowering local couples to care for orphaned and at-risk children within their own country.  A Home of Hope is a place of refuge where a native, Christian couple cares for up to 12 orphaned and at-risk children as their own sons or daughters.  LSM provides these couples with a modest dwelling in which to raise the children and monthly support to cover the costs of daily living.  Within these permanent families, all of the children's physical needs are met, and the love of Jesus is taught and demonstrated to them each day.

This program is unique because of our uncompromising commitment to placing children in families.  When the children become adults and move out of their Home of Hope, they will still have a place to call home.  When they get married and have children, their Home of Hope parents will be the grandparents! For children in the Homes of Hope, the love of a family will follow them wherever they go…forever.  This is how God designed it.

Stephanie Fast

Abandoned at the age of four to wander the war-torn Korean countryside, Stephanie Fast has a remarkable story of survival. She was persecuted and tortured because of her bi-racial ethnicity. Abused on the city streets and finally discarded and left to die in a garbage dump, Stephanie was miraculously rescued by a World Vision nurse.

A few years later, a childless missionary couple visited a World Vision orphanage and met Stephanie, who was covered with boils and dirt, lice infected, worm ridden and cross-eyed from malnutrition. Stephanie was so dead emotionally that she rejected compassionate love. However, this missionary couple heard God speak to their hearts, "She is the one for you…" and Stephanie was adopted. Stephanie's story proves that the God of the universe intervenes in the lives of individuals. Using her story, Stephanie touches on the depths of sin , shame , guilt and lack of trust that inhibit our ability to receive the supernatural gift of God's love. Stephanie teamed up with Loving Shepherd Ministries and is the orphan advocate for bringing mission teams and creating support awarness for the Forever Homes.
